Took 27 Years To Get To Heimwehfluh

Had lunch at the Hirschen Hotel Restaurant with our friend Käthi. Then, she suggested we go up to Heimwehfluh and catch the view. This is the first time since we have been coming to Interlaken that we have gone up to the Heimwehfluh. What a wonderful suggestion!
We could see the Adventure Guesthouse and our neighbors' houses. If you find the chalet with the red shutters, you have found the Adventure Guesthouse. We are staying in what I call the Garden House. You can see a small portion of the yellow blinds.

Just a short walk from the Interlaken West train station, the nostalgic funicular railway takes you up to the Heimwehfluh. At the top, one of the most beautiful views in the region awaits you.

Such a cute idea for your dog

Fresh garden salad or soup came with our meal. Carrots, beets, cucumbers, and other vegetables were hidden under the lettuce. The wedge of egg was a nice addition.

Pork chop with a very tasty creamy mustard sauce. Very tender and delicious!! The sauce added so much flavor to the chop. I think it would go so well with any type of pork.

To make a creamy Dijon mustard sauce, you simmer heavy cream and broth with shallots, then whisk in smooth and (optional: whole-grain mustards)
I found this recipe and when we get home, I will make this and compare it to what we had over the pork chop.
Ingredients
1 tablespoon butter
2 tablespoons finely chopped shallots (or yellow onion)
1/4 cup dry white wine or chicken broth
1 cup heavy whipping cream
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
1 tablespoon whole-grain mustard (optional, for extra texture)
Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions
Melt the butter in a pan over medium heat. Add the shallots and cook for 2 minutes until soft.
Pour in the white wine or chicken broth. Let the liquid bubble and reduce by half, which takes about 2 to 3 minutes.
Reduce the heat to medium-low. Pour in the heavy cream.
Simmer the cream for 5 to 8 minutes until it thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon.
Remove the pan from the heat. Whisk in the Dijon mustard and whole-grain mustard.
Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve warm over chicken, pork, or steak.
Michael had the apple tarts with whipped cream and vanilla sauce for dessert.

The over 100-year-old funicular railway whisks you from Interlaken to the Heimwehfluh in just four minutes. The valley station is easily and quickly accessible. The short ride is well worth it: the view over Lake Thun, Lake Brienz the town of Interlaken, and the surrounding villages is unforgettable.

One of our friends from England walked up the steep hill a few weeks ago in sandals. I was happy to take the funicular.

When you get off the funicular there is a room with a model train display.

The restaurant was closed.

The paragliders were landing in the Höhematte since 1864 has been a historically protected area.

We watched the helicopter land and then take off agggain.

Someone was brought in.

For the past 27 years we have looked at the Heimwehfluh from where we stay, but never went up. As I have told people over the years, there is always something new and exciting to see in Switzerland.

Thank you Käthi for making this day extra special for us.
