Interlaken is a traditional resort town in the mountainous Bernese Oberland region of central Switzerland. It has old timber houses and parkland on either side of the Aare River. Look forward to a diverse holiday in Interlaken, on the turquoise shores of Lake Brienz, the deep blue waters of Lake Thun, or in the idyllic Diemtigtal Nature Park. Interlaken serves as the primary transport hub for the iconic Jungfrau region. For over 150 years, its stunning alpine backdrop, historic Victorian tourism, and global media exposure have made it a world-renowned base for outdoor adventure. Its surrounding mountains, with dense forests, alpine meadows and glaciers, has numerous hiking trails.

In the Interlaken holiday region, a panorama awaits you, with views of the imposing mountains including the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau.

We picked up our bags at the train station this morning. Everything is stowed away. We found out our bags were sent to Bern by train but from Bern the bags come by truck.

The paragliders were out early this morning.

Höhematte Park: A big green space in the center of town. Watch colorful paragliders land right on the grass with big mountain views behind them.

Höheweg: The main street for walking, shopping, and looking at old Swiss buildings.

Unterseen: The old part of town just across the river. It has quiet, cozy alleys and old wooden houses.

The hanging geraniums are quite full

The few sprinkles this morning gave way to sunshine.

Many noticeable changes even from the train station to the B&B. The hairdressers have moved. in its place is a laundry. The Chinese wine store has closed as well as the bike shop.

Even the bus stop at the end of Helvetiastrasse has moved.

If you asked if it is worth coming to Interlaken I would have to say yes, but mainly as a convenient transportation hub and base camp rather than a quaint alpine village. While the town itself fcan take you eels modern and touristy, it sits directly between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz with immediate train access to world-class mountain sights. The wide gauge train tracks stop in Interlaken Ost . From the Interlaken Ost station you can change to narrow gauge trains which can take you up to the mountainous areas.

Interlaken and the surrounding Bernese Oberland region in Switzerland have served as the backdrop for numerous famous Bollywood hits, Hollywood action sequences, and popular television series.

Bollywood Classics

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995): This iconic romance starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol heavily featured the Interlaken and Jungfrau regions, cementing the area's popularity with Indian tourists.

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998): Several scenic train and mountain sequences were filmed around Interlaken and Lake Thun.

Sangam (1964): One of the early pioneers of shooting romantic sequences in Swiss alpine landscapes.

Darr and Chandni: Directed by Yash Chopra, who famously made Interlaken his primary muse; the town even features a commemorative statue of him.

Crash Landing on You (2019–2020): This global hit K-drama features emotional scenes shot right around Interlaken, Lake Brienz (including the Iseltwald pier), and Grindelwald. A paragliding mishap drops a South Korean heiress in North Korea - and into the life of an army officer, who decides he will help her hide. The series follows Yoon Se-ri, a South Korean chaebol who is swept across the border by a tornado while paragliding and lands in North Korea.

Band of Brothers (2001): The acclaimed HBO miniseries used locations in and around Interlaken and the Weissenau nature reserve to stand in for European theater backdrops.

Phantom Thread (2017): The Oscar-winning Paul Thomas Anderson film featured stunning lakeside scenes nearby at the Grandhotel Giessbach overlooking Lake Brienz.

Decided to do something different for lunch. We went to Cittá Vecchia, our favorite Italian restaurant in Unterseen.

Michael had "the usual" a Rusticana pizza

After lunch Michael and I stopped to see Gabiela and Felix at the Woodpecker, their shop.

On the way back, we walked by the Little Aare.

The blackberries at least like this weather.

The leaves on the trees almost look like they are turning color or the heat wave that is happening in Europe may cause the leaves to just turn brown and fall off. Will have to wait and see.

We love staying at the Adventure Guest House! It has become our home away from home!

Well, this is the main chalet with 9 rooms. I will take a picture of our Garden House tomorrow.
