In 1906, Oscar Kambly, II. (1887-1957), whose father originally hailed from Zürich, met a young girl during a stay in the French part of Switzerland. The original spelling of the family name was Kambli and has been adjusted somewhat by Oscar to differentiate from the well-established Zurich branch of the family. His future wife hailed from the village of Trubschachen in the Emmental valley. He followed her there and completed an apprenticeship as baker and confectionery maker in the village's bakery.

In 1910, together with his brother Paul Kambly, he established the company which today is known as Kambly SA and they began to transform the village bakery to a biscuit factory and commercially manufacture items. His original recipes, like the famed Bretzeli (1906) and Caramels à la Crème d'Emmental (1924) are still widely known and a staple in Swiss, German and French households. In 1954 the Goldfish Crackers were invented by Oscar J. Kambly, a member of the second generation.
Kambly's oldest and most well known product is the famed Bretzeli which was based on a recipe of Oscar Kambly's grandmother which he commercialized as early as 1906 and is still produced to this day and distributed to many countries.
Kambly is located in Trubschachen in the Emmental region.
The Emmental is a scenic, hilly valley region in west-central Switzerland within the canton of Bern, famous worldwide as the birthplace of traditional Emmental ( Swiss) cheese.
The scenery features rolling green hills, expansive forests, lush pastures, and traditional farmhouses with wide roofs.

The dry summer conditions with a lack of rain and high temperatures have effected the trees. They are brown and look as though they are dying.

Kambly even has their own train. We took it from Langnau to the factory.
The first Kambly train was put into service to coincide with Kambly’s 100-year anniversary in 2010. Up until December 2016, the locomotive-hauled EWIII model served the Berne-Trubschachen-Luzern route, delighting train enthusiasts of all ages.
Due to the introduction of the wing concept in Wolhusen (connecting the RegioExpress with S7), the existing Kambly train could no longer be used on the Bern – Luzernn route after the December 2016 timetable change. It was replaced by two RABe 535 (Lötschberger) train units, which now serve as the Kambly train.
From the timetable change on December15, 2024, BLS will be using MIKA trains instead of Lötschberger trains on the Bern-Luzern route. The 3rd edition of the ‘Kambly Train’ is on its way by rail.

The Kambly train runs between Bern, Trubschachen and Luzern to connect the excursion destinations along the line with each other. The Kambly train has low-floor entrances for passengers with disabilities or with pushchairs, power sockets in all passenger compartments and large panoramic windows.
The Kambly train also offers a specially designed family area that is perfectly tailored to the needs of young and old. Children are playfully entertained on the journey.
The information is given in multiple languages.

Parents and other travelers can enjoy the comfort of the MIKA trains. A bistro zone with drinks and snack vending machines is available for a sweet or savory snack in between. Passengers can purchase Kambly specialties and other sweet and savory snacks. Cold drinks as well as various coffee drinks, tea and soups are also available.

There is a cafe.
