It was another beautiful sunny day in the beach cities of Redondo and Hermosa. Temperatures reached a high of 83. It was very hot but every so often I could feel a slight breeze come off the ocean.
Spent the day walking the beach from the Portofino Hotel along The Strand in Hermosa Beach. I was taking pictures, walking on The Strand, taking pictures, walking in the extremely cold ocean water......
I am not one for soaking up the sun's rays so I did not sun bathe.
Took more pictures of sea gulls, dolphins, surfers.........
Look for the tail. The dolphins were riding the waves, too.
The surfers in Hermosa Beach were so much better than those I saw yesterday in Redondo Beach. Start humming the tune to "Hawaii Five- O" and "catch the wave".
Or hum "Wipe Out!"
Located aside the famous Hermosa Beach Strand, the Portofino's Hotel's 181 slip marina offers an ideal docking location for those whom prefer the ease of walking and biking to their favorite destinations and restaurants.
The Portofino Marina is next to the King Harbor Marina.
Spent some time looking at the names people have given their boats. Quite fascinating!
Noah's Ark is next to Promises
Joie de Vivre
Straight Up and Pistol Pete
Take Time
Come What May
Slip Away is next to Gone Wild
Persistence Again!
Then, there are the people whom either can not spell or want to be cute.
Barley Afloat? Should it be Barely? Oh, I know, the barley is in reference to the picture of the glass of beer. Did you spot the glass?
TOY YOT Cute!
Why do you always see the marinas full of boats? This is the cost of fuel. Oh.... if you can afford a boat this size, you can afford fuel.
Today was also boat cleaning day.
Can you spot the scuba diver cleaning the back?
What do you do with a big ugly power plant? Paint murals of whales on the side.
Hermosa Beach has a population of 19,506.
The city is located in the South Bay region of the greater Los Angeles area and is one of the three Beach Cities. Hermosa Beach is bordered by the other two, Manhattan Beach to the north and Redondo Beach to the south and east.
The city's beach is popular for sunbathing, beach volleyball, surfing, paddle boarding and bars.
The city itself extends only about 15 blocks from east to west and 40 blocks from north to south, with the Pacific Coast Highway running down the middle. Situated on the Pacific Ocean, Hermosa's average temperature is 70°F (22°C) in the summer and 55°F (13°C) in the winter. Westerly sea breezes lessen what can be high summertime temperatures in Los Angeles and elsewhere in the county and help keep the smog away 360 days of the year.
A paved path, called The Strand, runs along Hermosa's beach from Torrance Beach in the south approximately twenty miles north to Santa Monica and the Hermosa Beach pier is at the end of Pier Avenue, which is one of the beach community's main shopping, eating and partying areas.
Anyone for beach volleyball?
Would you like a house or apartment on The Strand? They are pretty expensive because of location...location...location!
I probably should have joined in......
Back in 1980 or 1981, my sister and I rented an apartment here for the month of July.
I could still see the billowing smoke of the fires off in the distance.
Drafting? Why else would you follow so closely?
So much pollution this afternoon!
Take your dog paddle boarding!
He better hope none of those dogs move!!!!! All the dogs have their life vests on, though. The dogs remind me of the flying monkeys in the Wizard of Oz.
The waves make pretty patterns in the sand.
Another day comes to a close.
