Redondo Beach, California

Chilly start to the morning at 55 degrees but it did warm up to 79 degrees by afternoon. Another beautiful beach day!!!

Winds must have switched direction during the night and I could smell smoke when I woke this morning. It only lasted a half hour or so. Wondering if it came from the fires that are still burning far north of where we are?

Many interesting boats outside our room this morning.

Two types of flags are used to indicate diving activity. A rectangular red flag, at least 12 inches x 16 inches, with a two-inch, white diagonal stripe if on state waters. A blue and white International Code Flag A (or Alfa flag) if on federally controlled or international waters.

Internationally, the code flag alfa/alpha, which is white and blue, is used to signal that the vessel has a diver down and other vessels should keep well clear at slow speed. In North America it is conventionally red with a white stripe from the upper left corner to the lower right corner.

The Goodyear Blimp came close by, too.

Went on a very long and leisurely bike ride from the beginning of the bike path in Redondo Beach to the end of the path in Manhattan Beach and back. I felt great!

The beaches seemed quite empty as compared to the last few days.

I only stopped and took pictures of where my sister, Melissa, Michael and I lived way back in 1982 - 1983.

We lived at 1302 Esplanade at the Holiday Riviera Apartments. The apartments were between Avenues E and F.

Michael lived in the corner apartment on the third floor. He could see the ocean from his side and front windows.

My sister and I had an apartment on the third floor overlooking the courtyard. We could see the ocean if we went out on our balcony.

Our apartment was the second one in.

We would cross the street, go down the pathway and be on the beach.

Yes, we used to watch for the dolphins swimming by, too.

Beautiful dog posing for a Christmas picture! Wish I had taken a couple more pictures from a different and better angle but she was tired from posing.

My brother-in-law, Ed, used to live at The Village.

Of the three beach cities, Redondo Beach has more large apartment buildings by the beach than Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach.

Got back to the room before sunset. Much activity happening in the little harbor outside our room.

Sunset

Enjoyed my last sunset in Southern California. Back to Scottsdale tomorrow in time for Star Wars!
