Aachen, Germany Weihnachtssingen auf dem Tivoli

Updated: Oct 14, 2019

Woke up to only a dusting of snow.

As the temperatures rose, the snow started to melt.

Late start to the day as we all seemed to want to sleep in.

Tina, Philipp, a friend of Heike's, Kathi, her parents and sister joined us for brunch. There is no comparison to German bead and rolls, butter and homemade jam.

I have fallen in love with these dogs. They are true buddies whom love to do everything together.

Today was a perfect day to just rest, relax and enjoy each others company. We even had time to fit in a forty-five minute nap.

We went to the Weihnachtssingen auf dem Tivoli, the Christmas singalong at the soccer stadium this evening. There were musicians, choirs and even an alpen horn player.

I can say I sang Christmas carols with 23,900 people. There are no words to describe this experience. The words indescribable, amazing, awesome, tremendous, inspiring, unique.... can't come close to the feelings I had. We each held a lighted candle the entire time.

Words to the carols were projected on different overhead screens and there were programs with the words. I enjoyed singing Hallelujah, We are the World and Oh Tannenbaum. In all, there were 33 songs sung. So much fun!

We sang carols in different languages: High German, Aachen dialect, English (Hark the Herald Angels Sing), French (Il es né le divin enfant) and Spanish (Feliz Navidad).

There were Christmas stories told.

Prayers were said before we all sang the last song, Silent Night. It was a goose bump moment.

After the concert, we went to a very cozy Italian restaurant. Delicious food and great conversation.

It was such a perfect day!
